The production of "Once Upon a Time. House." at the Chekhov Moscow Art Theatre has won many positive reviews from the audience.

The artistic director of the theatre, Konstantin Khabensky, was inspired by Karl Bryullov's film "The Last Day of Pompeii", which prompted him to take up directing the production. However, first a script was needed, and its creation was entrusted to Alexander Tsypkin, a popular author known for his scripts for the theatre. Tsypkin has already established himself thanks to successful projects, including the television series "Unprincipled", filmed by Roman Prygunov for "Kinopoisk". The Sovremennik Theatre is also showing the play Intuition, staged based on Tsypkin's script and directed by Khabensky and Danil Chashchin.

The play Once Upon a Time. A House at the Chekhov Moscow Art Theatre is a unique theatrical production consisting of eleven separate but interconnected stories. The prose of Alexander Tsypkin, written specifically at Khabensky's request, formed the basis of this work. His works, filled with irony and a deep understanding of human nature, were perfect for the stage. The script is a multi-layered narrative about modern society and human relationships. The non-linear structure of the plot allows viewers to independently connect the threads between the characters and events. The focus is on the inhabitants of one house with their intertwined destinies. There is a place for love, betrayal, hope and despair. Each character has a bright personality with their own characteristics and dreams. Among the 21 characters: 13 people, two angels, two rats, two parrots, one cat and one dog. All the stories have one ending that is familiar to the audience: the house is about to explode, and the angels are sent to save people.

The actors of the Chekhov Moscow Art Theatre brilliantly embody Tsypkin’s images on stage. Their performance is distinguished by deep psychological elaboration and attention to detail. The audience believes every word and gesture of the leading actors: Igor Vernik, Irina Pegova, Artyom Bystrov, Pavel Chinaryov and Kristina Babushkina. When buying tickets for the performance, you should take into account the diversity of the troupe; for example, the role of the parrot is played by Khabensky himself. His image of a wise parrot arouses admiration among the audience: he witnessed many historical events, from Pushkin’s love affairs to the execution of the royal family in Yekaterinburg in 1918.

Khabensky’s new production is not just a set of scenes; it is a complete work with important social and moral issues. The play raises the themes of happiness, love and family relationships through the prism of Tsypkin's humor and satire, helping viewers find answers to life's difficult questions.
