In early June 2025, the Leningrad group will delight residents of Vladivostok with their concert
Leningrad burst onto the Russian music scene in the late 1990s like a storm, shattering established notions of popular music and quickly winning over an army of fans across the country. The band was not shy about using strong language, discussing taboo topics, and ridiculing social vices, which invariably attracted attention and caused heated discussions. In the post-Soviet era, their outrageousness even led to a ban on official performances in Moscow, introduced by Mayor Luzhkov. However, this only fueled interest in the band from St. Petersburg.
Sergey Shnurov, the group's permanent leader and ideological inspirer, is an ambiguous but incredibly charismatic figure. He became the voice of a generation that was waiting for such a provocative musician. Under his leadership, Leningrad acquired a unique sound with a raucous courtyard mood and impressive vocal parts of invited soloists. Their songs instantly became hits thanks to their simple and memorable lyrics. The band's concerts became a place where you could escape from your worries and just enjoy life.
Shnurov also tried himself as an actor, director, TV presenter and artist. His works in the style of brandrealism - a style of painting that ridicules people's dependence on brands - were successful at exhibitions. Shnurov himself often said: "We are just a mirror of our life", which is reflected in both his songs and paintings.
Over time, Leningrad's work became more diverse: lyrical and philosophical compositions appeared, while retaining the band's signature drive and humor. Despite the criticism, it became obvious: Leningrad is not just a band with obscene songs, but a real cultural phenomenon with profound statements. Over the years of their existence, they have released many albums, each of which became an event in the world of music. Last year, their new works were released - "Blue Goddess" and "Boomers and Zoomers". Tickets for the concert in Vladivostok will give you the opportunity to enjoy both the famous hits of the group and the latest works of Shnurov.
