The play “What to do” at the Tovstonogov Drama Theater: A study of freedom, love and sincerity in the context of modernity and the 19th century
The performance “What to do”, held at the famous Bolshoi Drama Theater named after G.A. Tovstonogov, is more than just a theatrical performance. This is a unique combination of seminar, debate and amphitheater, where every spectator becomes a participant in the great discussion.
The authors of this stunning production ask questions that concern each of us: what does freedom mean today, what is the value of love, how to maintain honesty and sincerity in a world where information and stereotypes are seething around us? They invite us to think about the future from the present, considering new “utopias” and hopes that feed modern society.
Particular attention is paid to the main character of the novel, who in this interpretation turns out to be a woman. Her struggle for freedom and independence becomes a symbol of our time. The play begins with her manifesto: “I want to be free, I don’t want to owe anything to anyone, I don’t want anyone to tell me: you have to do this for me!” No, I only want to do what I want. And let others do the same; I don’t want to demand anything from anyone, I don’t want to restrict anyone’s freedom and I want to be free myself.”
This performance does more than just provide audiences with entertainment, it is a thought-provoking production that leads us to a deeper understanding of the values that underlie our lives. Tickets for this unique production are already on sale, and you won’t want to miss the opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of philosophical reflection and art that comes to life on the stage of Tovstonogov’s Bolshoi Drama Theater.
