Description
Luzhniki is a large sports arena of the Olympic complex, located in Moscow near the Sparrow Hills. The stadium was opened in 1956 and has since become a symbol of sports in Russia. Over its history, Luzhniki has hosted various significant events, including the Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR, the World Festival of Youth and Students, and the 1980 Summer Olympics.
After the last reconstruction, completed in 2017, Luzhniki became the largest stadium in Russia, accommodating 81 thousand people. Due to its capacity, the arena became the country's main football arena during the 2018 FIFA World Cup. It is also the largest stadium in Eastern Europe and one of the top ten largest football stadiums in Europe.
Luzhniki Stadium has modern amenities and comfort for spectators. During the reconstruction, a permanent roof was installed, the stands were repaired, and the surface of the running field and the area behind the football field was replaced. Screens were also installed, new plastic seats were installed and their number was reduced to 80 thousand.
