Imaginary patient in Moscow, Maly Theater

In Moscow, on the stage of the famous State Academic Maly Theater of Russia, the play “The Imaginary Ill” will be shown. based on the comedy of the same name by Jean Baptiste Moliere. Stage director - Honored Artist of Russia S.V. Zhenovach.

February 17, 1673, at the fourth performance of the new play, Moliere, who played the main role in his production, was able to appear on the stage of the Parisian theater with some difficulty. Palais Royal. After finishing the performance, he felt even worse. In the evening, the famous actor died.

The play “The Imaginary Patient” played a cruel irony with its author. It's surprising that this work was dedicated  just overcoming the fear of death. The first production of the comedy was also the last for Moliere. "Imaginary patient" called the pearl in Moliere’s work, the most “funny”  his stage creation.

The main character of the play is called Monsieur Argan. He is incredibly bored with life and therefore he finds “entertainment” for himself. all my life – constantly inventing various diseases for himself. Each new illness – a completely new event. Over time, Argan becomes a real hypochondriac, terrorizing seven with imaginary illnesses. Only the second wife can put up with this, but her motive is not at all harmless. Argan does not want to understand the sincerity of the feelings of the people around him. He is even ready to intervene in the fate of his only daughter, just to get a doctor as a son-in-law and be treated for free. But the plans are not destined to come true due to another character – a lively and cunning maid.

The comedy was written in the 17th century. But it is more modern than many current plays. This story about human fears, love and deception has remained timeless.
