The play "Shukshin's Stories" was staged in 2008 for the Theater of Nations by director Alvis Hermanis. Very soon it will be possible to see it on the Main Stage of the Moscow Provincial Theater. This production has all the hallmarks of a real theatrical hit - great acting, an eternal plot and a wonderful director, so tickets for the play "Shukshin's Stories" usually sell out almost immediately.
The director chose eight works by Vasily Makarovich Shukshin ("Styopkin's Love", "Boots", "Microscope", "Ignakha Arrived", "Fingerless", "The Wife Saw Her Husband Off to Paris", "Cut", "On Sunday the Old Mother", "Styopka"). Just as Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin is called the sun of Russian poetry, Shukshin was deservedly given the title of the sun of Soviet social prose. His work is dedicated to ordinary people, whose fates are revealed in just a few pages, but the writer convincingly shows us that each character is unique and deserves attention.
Shukshin's literary style, full of humor and satire, tragedy and comedy at the same time, echoes the director's vision of Hermanis, demonstrating the interconnectedness of good and evil, simplicity and complexity, comedy and tragedy. The play reflects these contrasts and reminds the viewer how closely the opposites are intertwined within each of us.
"Shukshin's Stories" won prestigious awards, including the Golden Mask, Crystal Turandot, and in 2009 received the honorary title of "Nail of the Season". Every connoisseur of good theater should definitely see this masterpiece!
