About event

Clear Chekhovian motifs appear in this performance of the Maly Theater, because it is based on the play “Three Sisters,” the most heartfelt, psychological, and sincere.

His play “Three Sisters” A.P. Chekhov wrote in 1900, and for more than a century the play of the same name has not left the stage, continuing to delight audiences with the story of three sisters, the story of dreams and unfulfilled hopes.

On the stage of the Maly Theater the play “Three Sisters” was first staged in 2004 and has since become an integral part of the repertoire. Just like several years ago, the production has many fans. It’s not surprising, because “Three Sisters” is an eternal classic, complemented by excellent directing decisions and acting.

The play Three Sisters tells about three girls living in a small province. Their life is boring and monotonous. Against the backdrop of this monotony, the older sister enters into a relationship with an officer, and the younger sister falls in love with the baron. But their relationship did not last long, the girls’ dreams and hopes collapsed. And then they decide to go to Moscow in search of happiness. But is it easy to find this very happiness in the capital?

There are no good or bad characters in this performance – even the characters who seem to be the most vulnerable in their rightness are all right in their own way and all are unhappy and lonely. It is this circumstance that creates the unusually tender atmosphere of this performance, the atmosphere of universal understanding and love for which Chekhov’s heroes live.
