Mystery box in Moscow, Maly Theater

Performance "Mystery Box" at the Maly Theater, an enchanting musical performance once invented by Emmanuel Théolon, Narcisse Fournier and Stéphane Arnoux.

The Maly Theater likes to stage funny vaudevilles and theatrical delights with a distinctly grotesque form. One of these comedic and elegant variations on the play was presented by director Solomin: his introversion turned out to be surprisingly juicy and incredibly funny. The positive charge of the play was also experienced by actors Konovalov, Klyukvin, Pashkova, Ermakov, Klyuev, Kudinovich, Ivanova and others.

The basis of the performance – play by Pyotr Karatygin, written in 1843. In the center of events – one rich man makes a very unexpected offer to his heirs. According to the plan of this bet, the heirs must dress up in the costumes of common shoemakers, and then they will receive a large sum of money. But the relatives reject this proposal with disgust, although each of them, somewhere deep in their souls, is ready to make compromises in order to get a substantial amount of money. And only Saint-Felix, a poor actor who has been badly battered by the failures that haunt him, agrees to dress up in cast-offs, which have been stored for a long time in a mysterious box.

In the “Mystery Box”, they will see the revival of the once popular vaudeville genre. At the premiere screenings, the main role of the play – Saint Felix, performed by Yuri Solomin. Now this role has gone to the public’s favorite – to the famous Eduard Martsevich. The actors of the Maly Theater played all the characters in a multifaceted way. The magnificent musical numbers, without which no vaudeville is complete, also deserve high praise.​
