About event
The State Academic Maly Theater will present the comedy play “Wolves and Sheep”. The production is based on the play of the same name by Alexander Ostrovsky. The premiere of the updated production took place on June 25, 1994.
The plot is based on a story as old as time that some people – sheep, simple-minded and meek, and others are predators – wolves, dangerous and treacherous, but even they can miss and end up in a completely awkward situation when they are already victims. Ostrovsky was inspired to create the work by a real story about a court case in 1874, when the abbess was convicted of fraud. At trial, her lawyer called her a wolf in sheep's clothing. The author managed to create an immortal work that captured the opposing conflict between the heroes, that the society of “sheep and wolves” has become so vicious and vile. About constant substitutions, when wolves become sheep, sheep turn into wolves.
The play "Wolves and Sheep" became a kind of calling card of the Maly Theater, having gone through a considerable number of productions in which the best theater artists participated and shone. A quarter of a century has passed since the premiere, the work does not lose its relevance even now, and every time the performance takes place in front of a full hall.
