About event
The Moscow Operetta Theater invites guests to a vibrant musical based on the play of the same name by Lope de Vega, “A Dog in the Manger.”
When interest is replaced by sympathy, sympathy by passion, and passion by jealousy, there is no way to contain the fire of feelings. The beautiful Countess Diana de Belleflore and her secretary Teodoro know this firsthand. The public liked their love story so much that it has not left the theater stage for the 4th century. It has everything you need — subtle humor, colorful characters and wonderful intrigue.
Director Tatyana Konstantinova will present a fresh look at her. She modernized the libretto and emphasized the authentic music of Alexander Klevitsky. A specially invited Spanish guitar master takes part in almost every scene. Lively flamenco melodies permeate the entire production, immersing the viewer in the world of romantic serenades and secret messages.
The artist Viktor Arkhipov managed to convey the spirit of Spain without resorting to historical authenticity. The decorations are more in the Art Nouveau style. An attentive viewer will notice a mix of the most striking architectural features of the country — graceful arches of Moorish palaces, unusual bas-reliefs characteristic of the works of Gaudi, etc.
Svetlana Logofet worked on the luxurious costumes. The dresses of the main characters are embroidered with gold threads in the best traditions of the 16th century. When creating it, she was inspired not only by ancient engravings, but also by everyone’s favorite Soviet film adaptation of the play.
The images of the main characters will be embodied by star theater actors. The role of Diana was entrusted to E. Zaitseva and V. Nikolaeva, and the role of Teodoro — L. Bakhtalin and P. Ivanov. They first presented the operetta in 2018, and since then interest in it has not subsided. Don't miss the chance to enjoy talented acting, amazing vocals and energetic Spanish dancing.
