About event
Theater named after The Mossovet presents the play “Vassa”, based on the play “Vassa Zheleznova” by Maxim Gorky. The production is dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the author’s birth. Director Sergei Vinogradov presented the audience with a combination of two productions of Gorky's play - the original and the more famous second variation. Scenography by Maria Rybasova, costume designer Victoria Sevryukova, lighting designer Sergei Skornetsky.
Setting on an always relevant topic, regardless of time and social system - what does money do to people? Sergei Vinogradov decided to stage the performance in a genre that was unusual for the famous play. Namely, not in the form of a heavy social drama, but in the style of a “black comedy”. The author's original text predisposes to this; there is irony and even farcical situations.
The play reveals the life of Vassa Zheleznova; she worked tirelessly and with all her life for the well-being of her family. But instead of recognition and love from relatives, everything turned out completely the opposite, as in the old wisdom, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Vassa is surrounded by greedy, careless and ungrateful members of the Khrapov-Zheleznov family. The entire creative team of the theater, while working on the production, tried to make it easier and more understandable to the modern audience.
