On July 16, the Etihad Arena will host a match between the national teams of Australia and Serbia as part of the USA Basketball Showcase tournament. This is the second summer in a row that USA Basketball has chosen the UAE capital as the location for its tournament.
The Australian national basketball team, also known as the Boomers, represents Australia on the international stage. Managed by Basketball Australia, the team boasts multiple Oceania Championship victories. In 1988, 1992, 1996 and 2016, the Boomers took 4th place in the Olympic tournaments. The team's head coach is Brian Gurjan.
The Serbian national basketball team, in turn, represents Serbia in international competitions. Since 1995, when it was given the right to participate in international competitions, Serbia (as part of a union or independently) has shown excellent results. The team is currently ranked sixth in the FIBA world rankings and has been named the best men's team of the year by the country's Olympic Committee six times.
